It debuted on January 1, 2011, in approximately 80 million homes, replacing the former Discovery Health Channel (DHC).

In late 2012, Tyler Perry partnered with OWN to provide it with scripted television programming. One of Perry's series The Haves and the Have Nots has consistently posted very successful ratings and has set a preeminent record on OWN, providing the network with its highest ratings to date. A March 11, 2014 episode of the series brought in 3.6 million viewers, surpassing the 3.5 million that tuned in for an Oprah’s Next Chapter episode which was the network's previous highest rated viewing.

As of August 2013, OWN is available to approximately 83,261,000 pay television households (72.91% of households with television) in the United States.

OWN broadcasts in both standard-definition resolution (480i) and high-definition resolution (1080i). All markets of DirecTV, AT&T Uverse, Dish Network, Cablevision and Bright House Networks carry the channel in HD. Charter Communications, Cox and Time Warner Cable carry the HD feed of the channel only in some markets. Verizon FiOS and Comcast have yet to carry the channel in HD.

As of March 2014, the network's programming primarily consists of marathons, with eight-hour daytime blocks airing multiple episodes of the same series, usually a different show each day. The primetime programming varies and is repeated in late night, followed by an overnight movie and a morning block of talk shows including Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray, and The Nate Berkus Show. The programming includes a mix of original programs, specials, documentaries, and acquired movies. The channel does not air infomercials.

In Canada, the former Canadian version of Discovery Health, owned by Shaw Media, did not become a Canadian version of OWN, instead shifting to a reality-based format known as Twist TV. Instead, Corus Entertainment agreed to launch a Canadian version of OWN in early 2011—its existing channel Viva was re-launched as OWN on March 1, 2011. During January and February 2011, selected OWN programming aired on both Viva and the co-owned W Network. Both Shaw Media and Corus share common ownership interests from the J.R. Shaw family, but are considered separate companies. Winfrey revealed to The New York Times that she is in final negotiations to release the channel in Brazil and Argentina.

An OWN Programming Block that features popular series such as Oprah's Next Chapter, Oprah's Lifeclass and Super Soul Sunday began airing on TLC UK in April 2013. The same programming block began airing Discovery Home & Health in Australia on August 4, 2013. It was announced on September 20, 2013, that the OWN Programming Block would begin airing in South Africa on DStv beginning October 17, 2013. OWN Programming Block also debuted in Poland and Russia in August and September; it also debut on October 28, 2013, in Balkans/Romania/Bulgaria. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oprah_Winfrey_Network_%28U.S._TV_channel%29','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5207395270981568154.post-38703362572222182812015-02-03T04:07:00.000+08:002015-02-03T05:32:32.963+08:00KCBS RADIO SAN FRANCISCO
FOR MANY PEOPLE, especially in the 21st century, religion is very confusing. There exist today countless churches that label themselves as Christians, yet with differing doctrines and teachings, despite their claim that their sole basis is the Holy Scriptures.

In this day and age, many take the position that everyone has the right to his own interpretation when it comes to God's teachings written in the Holy Bible. But what does God strictly command concerning His words written in the Bible? God says in Deuteronomy 12:32: "Carefully obey all the commands I give you. Do not add to them or subtract from them"(New Living Translation).

God revealed His commands by speaking at various times and in various ways (Heb. 1:1-2). To make His words reach the future generations, He commanded that His words be written (Jer. 30:2; I Cor. 10:11) in a book, the Holy Scriptures (II Tim. 3:15), which today is commonly called the Holy Bible.

It is of utmost importance to receive God's words correctly to have the right understanding and to ensure careful obedience to His commandments.

The need for a true messenger
Though God commanded that His words be written, one is gravely mistaken to think that His written words are easy to understand or that they are open to personal interpretation. In Apostle Peter's second epistle , he gave a warning, saying: "This is what he says in all his letters when he writes on the subject. There are some difficult things in his letters which ignorant and unstable people explain falsely, as they do with other passages of the Scriptures. So they bring on their own destruction" (II Pet. 3:16, Today's English Version).

Apostle Paul tells us that the gospel has been kept secret, hidden in mystery since the world began (Rom. 16:25). Because of this, it has been God's policy since ancient times to use and send messengers to proclaim His words so that they may be communicated and received clearly and accurately by those to whom the messengers were sent. This is why Apostle Paul emphatically declared: "And how can the message be proclaimed if the messengers are not sent out? As the Scripture says, 'How wonderful is the coming of messengers who bring good news!" (Rom. 10:15, TEV).
Source: http://www.greentechmedia.com
Two new online interactive maps produced by the federal government show where the nation’s wind farms are, how quickly they were built and what impact they may have on the landscape.

Wind energy is expected to make up about 4.6 percent of total U.S. electric power generation by 2015, totaling about 77,000 megawatts of wind power capacity nationwide, U.S. Energy Information Administration data show. That’s up from 3 percent in 2012, when total U.S. wind power generation capacity was about 60,000 megawatts. One megawatt of wind power is enough energy to provide electricity to roughly 300 homes.

A new interactive map featured on the U.S. Department of Energy’s website shows how fast all those wind farms were constructed.

The first panel in the map shows the nation’s first wind farm going online in southern California in 1975, producing enough electricity to power 4,149 homes. Flash forward 20 years to 1995, and there were 54 wind farms across the country, mostly in California, powering 349,000 homes.

By 1999, wind farms were coming online throughout west Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado and Wyoming. As of 2012, there were more than 45,000 wind turbines in 39 states and Puerto Rico, providing enough electricity to power about 15 million homes.

Though all those turbines help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from coal and natural gas power plants, wind farms can still be harmful to some animals, from habitat fragmentation to birds colliding with turbine blades.

To help scientists study those effects, the U.S. Geological Survey announced in February that it has launched a new online mapping tool, called the WindFarm Mapping Application, which will help the agency assess the environmental impacts of wind farms on a national scale. Geographic data for the maps were released at the same time.

Though some features of the maps are a little glitchy, the mapping application allows users to zoom in on a specific wind farm and see how its turbines are distributed across the landscape. Turbines shown on the map are also color-coded for their wind-generating capacity, and the accompanying dataset provides information about each turbine’s height, manufacturer, model, capacity and turbine blade area.

In its announcement of the application’s release, the USGS said the data is available to the public to help scientists, nonprofit organizations, the energy industry and land managers study wildlife collisions, how turbines overlap major migratory flyways and how wind farms affect the surrounding environment.

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5207395270981568154.post-34786083897306086542014-01-29T14:50:00.004+08:002014-02-07T12:44:11.937+08:00State of the Union 2014 (U.S. President Barack Obama)

It is licensed to the state capital, Santa Fe and broadcasts on digital channel 27 but is displayed as channel 2, its former analog channel number. It is owned by LIN Media and is a sister station to CBS affiliate KRQE. The two stations share a studio on Broadcast Plaza in Albuquerque. Syndicated programming on KASA includes: The World's Funniest Moments, The 700 Club, America's Funniest Home Videos, and Extra. Additionally, KASA may air programming as an alternate CBS affiliate when KRQE is airing non-CBS programming. For example, annually KASA will air CBS network coverage of the US Open tennis tournament, while KRQE is airing the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.

In addition to the main KASA signal, there are 41 low-powered repeaters that carry its programming throughout New Mexico and parts of Colorado.

Channel 2 signed on as KSAF in 1983 as a locally-owned general entertainment independent station. The station initially ran old movies, westerns, drama shows, and religious programming. In the spring of 1985, channel 2 became known as KNMZ-TV and began running cartoons, old sitcoms and other shows that had previously aired on KNAT-TV (channel 23), which had recently gone dark (it returned the next year as a TBN affiliate).

Channel 2 was sold in 1986 to New Mexico Media Limited License Holdings. The format stayed the same, but in 1989 the station changed call letters to KKTO-TV. Shortly afterwards, the station began to suffer financial problems, and by 1991 channel 2 was running an all-barter lineup of a few classic sitcoms and first run cartoons as well as low budget movie packages.

Debuting on September 16, 2006, KASA airs a one-hour nightly newscast produced by sister station KRQE. Originally titled News 13 on Fox 2, the newscast was renamed KRQE News 13 at 9 on August 8, 2010, the same evening KRQE began broadcasting all newscasts in true high definition. During KASA newscasts, and in cases of breaking news, KASA carries Fox News coverage, as it is a Fox affiliate, rather than the CBS News coverage used by KRQE, a CBS affiliate. Prior to September 16, 2006, KOB-TV produced the newscast, titled Fox 2 News at Nine, for five years. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KASA-TV','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5207395270981568154.post-92102270679439535382014-01-01T09:33:00.001+08:002014-01-01T13:35:36.618+08:00New Year 2014 Countdown, New York City
It was a riveting show on the Discovery Channel as architect Andrew James guided the viewer on a tour of the amphitheater that occupies 34,000 sqm (its dome takes up 36,000 sqm, “the biggest roof space in the world”), coupled with the insights provided by Renato Solidum, earthquake expert of Phivolcs. The Philippine Arena, as it was referred to throughout the one-hour program on television, is touted as earthquake-proof even if it sits a mere 30 km from the (Marikina) West Valley Fault, even if 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes are generated ‘round the Pacific ring of fire. But then as Dr. Solidum put it, “earthquakes don’t kill people, buildings do.” <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://www.mb.com.ph/inc-arena-is-planets-biggest','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">Manila Bulletin ("INC arena is planet’s biggest" - Julie Yap Daza
With a capacity of up to 55,000, it will be the world's largest indoor domed-arena. It is the centerpiece of the many centennial projects of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) for their grand celebration on July 27, 2014. The arena has been master planned to enable at least 50,000 people to gather inside the building and a further 50,000 to gather at a ‘live site’ or plaza outside to share in major events. The arena is a one-sided bowl. The lower bowl will be the most frequently used part of the building and the architectural design allows for easy separation of the lower bowl from the upper tier, by curtaining with acoustic and thermal properties.
For the arena, a series of outdoor plazas, gardens and performance venues form the setting for the development including: The North and South Arrival Plazas, The Promontory Plaza, The Great Stairs, and Ciudad de Victoria Plaza that are all related to each other with two cross axes (N-S and E-W) that intersect at the Promontory Plaza.

The arena will not only hold major church gatherings, it will also operate as a multi-use sports and concert venue, capable of holding a range of events from boxing and basketball to live music performances. There is clear "line of sight" for every seat from each tier, even for various arena configurations such as church ceremonies, boxing, tennis, concerts or indoor gymnastics. The overall vision of the masterplan will eventually see inclusion of shopping centers a hospital and large scale residential developments.
The monsoon trough, alternatively known as the intertropical convergence zone, plays a significant role in creating the climatic conditions necessary for the Earth's tropical rainforests.

Around 40% to 75% of all biotic species are indigenous to the rainforests. It has been estimated that there may be many millions of species of plants, insects and microorganisms still undiscovered in tropical rainforests. Tropical rainforests have been called the "jewels of the Earth" and the "world's largest pharmacy", because over one quarter of natural medicines have been discovered there. Rainforests are also responsible for 28% of the world's oxygen turnover, sometimes misnamed oxygen production, processing it through photosynthesis from carbon dioxide and consuming it through respiration.

The undergrowth in some areas of a rainforest can be restricted by poor penetration of sunlight to ground level. If the leaf canopy is destroyed or thinned, the ground beneath is soon colonized by a dense, tangled growth of vines, shrubs and small trees, called a jungle. There are two types of rainforest, tropical rainforest and temperate rainforest.

Tropical
Tropical rainforests are characterized in two words: warm and wet. Mean monthly temperatures exceed 18 °C (64 °F) during all months of the year. Average annual rainfall is no less than 168 cm (66 in) and can exceed 1,000 cm (390 in) although it typically lies between 175 cm (69 in) and 200 cm (79 in).

Many of the world's rainforests are associated with the location of the monsoon trough, also known as the intertropical convergence zone. Tropical rainforests are rainforests in the tropics, found in the equatorial zone (between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn). Tropical rainforest is present in Southeast Asia (from Myanmar (Burma) to the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and northeastern Australia), Sri Lanka, sub-Saharan Africa from Cameroon to the Congo (Congo Rainforest), South America (e.g. the Amazon Rainforest), Central America (e.g. Bosawás, southern Yucatán Peninsula-El Peten-Belize-Calakmul), and on many of the Pacific Islands (such as Hawaiʻi). Tropical rainforests have been called the "Earth's lungs", although it is now known that rainforests contribute little net oxygen addition to the atmosphere through photosynthesis.

Temperate
Temperate rainforests are rainforests in temperate regions. Tropical forests cover a large part of the globe, but temperate rainforests only occur in few regions around the world. They occur in North America (in the Pacific Northwest, the British Columbia Coast and in the inland rainforest of the Rocky Mountain Trench east of Prince George), in Europe (parts of the British Isles such as the coastal areas of Ireland and Scotland, southern Norway, parts of the western Balkans along the Adriatic coast, as well as in the North West of Spain and coastal areas of the eastern Black Sea, including Georgia and coastal Turkey), in East Asia (in southern China, Taiwan, much of Japan and Korea, and on Sakhalin Island and the adjacent Russian Far East coast), in South America (southern Chile) and also in Australia and New Zealand. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainforest','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5207395270981568154.post-952083697082041582013-09-20T21:37:00.002+08:002013-09-23T17:03:12.975+08:00Rebecca Shearing

The song was written by Perry, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, and Henry "Cirkut" Walter. "Roar" is a midtempo power pop song. The song made its radio debut on August 10, 2013 and was released onto iTunes, YouTube, and Amazon two days later. A lyric video was released the same day as its iTunes release. "Roar" has garnered positive reviews from music critics, some of whom compared it to her 2010 single "Firework". For the week ending September 14, 2013, "Roar" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. "Roar" also topped the charts in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roar_%28song%29','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5207395270981568154.post-12421441400334111982013-08-27T09:57:00.000+08:002015-06-25T10:15:32.592+08:00CBS NEWS

The president of CBS News is David Rhodes. CBS News' broadcasts include the CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, news magazine programs CBS Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes and 48 Hours, and Sunday morning political affairs program Face the Nation. CBS recently launched CBSN, the first live anchored 24-hour streaming news network exclusively online and on smart devices.

In 1929 the Columbia Broadcasting System began making regular radio news broadcasts — five-minute summaries taken from reports from the United Press, one of the three wire services that supplied newspapers with national and international news. In December 1930 CBS chief William S. Paley hired journalist Paul W. White away from United Press as CBS's news editor. Paley put the radio network's news operation at the same level as entertainment, and authorized White to interrupt programming if events warranted. Along with other networks, CBS chafed at the breaking news embargo imposed upon radio by the wire services, which prevented them from using bulletins until they first appeared in print. CBS disregarded an embargo when it broke the story of the Lindbergh kidnapping in 1932, using live on-the-air reporting. Radio networks scooped print outlets with news of the 1932 presidential election.

In March 1933 White was named vice president and general manager in charge of news at CBS. As the first head of CBS News, he began to build an organization that soon established a legendary reputation.

In 1935 White hired Edward R. Murrow, and sent him to London in 1937 to run CBS Radio's European operation.[2]:486 White led a staff that would come to include Charles Collingwood, William L. Shirer, Eric Sevareid, John Charles Daly, Joseph C. Harsch, Cecil Brown, Elmer Davis, Quincy Howe, H. V. Kaltenborn and Robert Trout.

"CBS was getting its ducks in a row for the biggest news story in history, World War II", wrote radio historian John Dunning. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS_News','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5207395270981568154.post-81241870698696303322013-08-27T08:29:00.000+08:002014-03-17T16:42:45.258+08:00ABC NEWS
ABC began news broadcasts early in its independent existence as a radio network after the Federal Communications Commission ordered the former NBC Blue Network to be spun off as an independent company in 1943. This was done to keep single or a few companies such as NBC and CBS from dominating radio broadcasting in the U.S., and in particular, from dominating news and political broadcasting and projecting narrow points-of-view. Television broadcasting was suspended however, during World War II.

Regular ABC television news broadcasts began soon after ABC started transmitting from its initial New York City television station and production center in late summer 1948. ABC-TV news broadcasts have continued as the ABC television network spread across the country, a process that took many years, from that beginning in 1948 through today, but they have not always had the same level of success that they enjoy now.
The station is owned by the Journal Broadcast Group division of Journal Communications. KTNV's studios are located in the nearby suburb of Paradise, and its transmitter is located atop Mount Arden in Henderson.

The station signed on the air for the first time on May 4, 1956 as KSHO-TV. Channel 13 has been an ABC affiliate since its inception, taking the network from KLRJ/KORK-TV (channel 3, now KSNV-DT) and KLAS-TV (channel 8), which shared programming from the network from the January 1955 sign-on of KLRJ (though KLAS had carried a secondary affiliation with ABC since it debuted in 1953) until KSHO signed on.

In 1979, KTNV was purchased by Journal Communications; the acquisition made it Journal's second television station property (and its first television station acquisition outside of the company's headquarters of Milwaukee, Wisconsin). The station changed its callsign to KTNV-TV on March 2, 1980 (the -TV suffix was removed from 1988 to 2009).

KTNV originally transmitted its signal from a tower located right outside the station at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Valley View Boulevard, on the quadruple border of city of Las Vegas, Spring Valley, Paradise and Winchester. The tower is a unique and visible landmark throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
The station first signed on the air on July 6, 1953 as WTPA (standing for Television PennsylvaniA), operating as an NBC affiliate. WTPA was founded by the Newhouse family, whose media holdings eventually became Advance Publications. The following year, the station became an ABC affiliate.

The Times Mirror Company acquired the Newhouse television stations (including WTPA) in 1980 and changed its call sign to the current WHTM-TV. The station was sold, along with then-sister station WETM-TV in Elmira, New York, to Smith Broadcasting Company in 1986. WHTM, in turn, was sold to Price Communications in 1994. Allbritton Communications Company acquired the station in 1996. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHTM-TV','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The station first signed on the air on November 29, 1953 as WSIX-TV, broadcasting on VHF channel 8; it was the second television station in Nashville. The station was originally owned by Louis and Jack Draughon, along with WSIX radio (980 AM, now WYFN). The call letters came from the 638 Tire Company in nearby Springfield, where the Draughon brothers had started WSIX in 1930; neither the radio nor the television stations have ever had the number six in their frequencies, which would explain it otherwise. Originally a CBS affiliate that shared the ABC affiliation with WSM-TV (channel 4, now WSMV), it became a full-time ABC affiliate after only one year when WLAC-TV (channel 5, now WTVF) signed on and took the CBS affiliation due to WLAC radio's long history as a CBS radio affiliate. During the late 1950s, the station was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network. <a href="javascript:void(0)"onclick="window.open('http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WKRN-TV','linkname','height=590, width=700,scrollbars=yes')">From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felcorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895937585253757452noreply@blogger.com0
