Solar Sports or the Solar Sports Network is a 24-hour Philippine sports channel owned by Solar Entertainment Corporation. The channel was launched on January 1, 1994 and is available for G Sat, Cablelink and various minor cable subscribers. It is also available on Global Destiny Cable. Dream Satellite TV ceased operation as of February 2009. Starting June 1, 2010 Solar Sports will now return on SkyCable.

The channel is known for showing sports that are familiar to the Filipinos. Its main programming are the NBA games, which are shown either a game or a doubleheader each day during the season. Other NBA programming includes shows produced by NBA TV, such as the NBA's Greatest Games and WNBA games during the league's off-season. It also shows the American Super Bowl. Basketball TV or BTV is a 24-hour all-basketball cable channel in the Philippines owned by the Solar Entertainment Corporation. It was launched on October 1, 2006, rebranding the Sports Plus channel.

The channel focuses more on showing NBA TV related programs and also regular NBA games once the season begins. In its initial broadcasts, it has been showing re-runs of the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and the 2006 FIBA World Championship.

Aside for the NBA games, it also shows coverage of the Euroleague and the National Basketball League as well as FIBA related programming and the 2006 Asian Games and 2008 Olympic Games basketball competitions. The 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament was shown on BTV including the championship game, as well as the 2008 tournament.

Aside for its foreign coverage, BTV was the official carrier of the Philippine Basketball League from April 2007 after gaining the rights from Studio 23. However, the coverage is on a slightly delayed basis at 5:00 PM. In late-2007, the second matchup of a Tuesday gameday is shown on RPN 9 but has since moved to IBC-13[citation needed] on Saturdays at the onset of the season-ending conference because RPN became the exclusive broadcast carrier of C/S. However the PBL was moved back to C/S 9 in November 2008, showing the first game on Tuesday. As of 2010, the PBL is inactive.

It also covered the Collegiate Champions League tournaments, and in the past saw a few National Capital Region Athletic Association and National Basketball Conference matches.

From 2008-2011, the Philippine Basketball Association was also shown on BTV, although on delay and only one game per day, with the live games aired on RPN and later Studio 23.

The channel is available throughout Metro Manila through SkyCable and is also available nationwide via Cignal and G-Sat satellite TV, as well as online via iwantv.com.ph (exclusively available for SkyBroadband and Bayan DSL subscribers).

A supplementary channel, NBA Premium TV, was launched in time for the 2010-11 season, featuring over 400 games with no local commercials. The network is available on both HD and SD formats, and is available as a premium subscription plan with additional fees.  From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NBA TV

NBA TV is a television specialty channel that is dedicated to showcasing the sport of basketball in the United States. The network is financially backed by the National Basketball Association (NBA), which also uses NBA TV as a way of advertising their out of market package NBA League Pass, and partner channel TNT.

Started in 1999 as nba.com TV, the channel, which had its studios at NBA Entertainment in Secaucus, New Jersey, began a multi-year deal with American television companies Cox Communications, Cablevision, and Time Warner Cable on June 28, 2003, allowing the network to expand to 45 million American homes, and 30 different countries. NBA TV replaced Time Warner's CNN/SI on many cable systems after that network shut down a year earlier.

On October 8, 2007, it was reported that Turner Sports, a division of Time Warner, was to take over the channel's operations, according to Hoopsworld:

"NBATV: Surprisingly there has been little said about the NBA's decision to sell off NBATV to one of its media partners. Talks had gone on for sometime as ESPN/ABC and Turner both explored scenarios with the league. Ultimately it seems Turner has won out, and will take over operation of the league's flagship cable channel, that reaches some 12 million subscribers. The exact changeover date is not clear, but several months ago a Bloomberg report cited sources saying senior level producers were offered contract buyouts in September."

Turner Sports relaunched the channel on October 28, 2008, using analysts carried over from NBA on TNT. The studio was also upgraded, and the show now airs live from Studio B at Turner Studios in Atlanta, Georgia; Studio B is adjacent to Studio J, home of Inside the NBA.   From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ESPN

The Entertainment Sports Programming Network, usually referred to by its acronym ESPN, is an American cable television network focusing on sports-related programming.

Founded by Bill Rasmussen, his son Scott Rasmussen and Getty Oil executive Stuart Evey, it launched on September 7, 1979, under the direction of Chet Simmons, the network's President and CEO (and later the United States Football League's first commissioner). Getty Oil Company provided the funding to begin the new venture. Geoff Bray of New Britain, CT was chosen as the architect. George Bodenheimer is ESPN's current president, a position he has held since November 19, 1998. Bodenheimer has also headed ABC Sports, a separate legal entity now branded as ESPN on ABC, since March 3, 2003.

ESPN's signature telecast, SportsCenter, debuted with the network and aired its 30,000th episode on February 11, 2007. ESPN broadcasts primarily from its studios in Bristol, Connecticut. The network also operates offices in Miami; New York City; Seattle, Washington; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Los Angeles. The Los Angeles office, from which the late-night edition of SportsCenter is now broadcast, opened at L.A. Live in early 2009. The name of the sport company was lengthened to "ESPN Inc." in February 1985.

ESPN 2

ESPN2 is an American sports cable television network owned by ESPN. The channel debuted on October 1, 1993.

Originally nicknamed "the deuce," ESPN2 was initially branded as a network for a younger generation of sports fans featuring edgier graphics as well as extreme sports like motocross, snowboarding, and BMX racing. This mandate was phased out by the late 1990s, as the channel increasingly served as a second outlet for ESPN's mainstream sports coverage. ESPN2 is carried in 89 million homes in the United States, eleven million fewer than ESPN.

"The Deuce" launched on October 1, 1993 with the first episode of SportsNight, a sports news program originally hosted by Keith Olbermann and Suzy Kolber, where Keith opened the show by jokingly welcoming viewers to "the end of [his] career." SportsNight would also serve as the starting point for many other ESPN personalities, among them Stuart Scott, Suzy Kolber and Kenny Mayne.

ESPN2's initial programming was aimed towards younger viewers, and as such primarily focused on alternative events, including extreme sports, alongside being an additional outlet for sports ESPN also covered at the time. ESPN2 telecasts were more informal than their counterparts; commentators did not wear ties, and individual sports were promoted with additional taglines (such as "Hell on Wheels" for NASCAR, and "Fire on Ice" for NHL hockey). ESPN2 also had an "edgier" look on-air, its original logo featured a graffiti styled numeral "2" and did not resemble ESPN's logo at all, and on-screen graphics would also often use an edgier font with inconsistent letter casing.
